Dar Roumana is Arabic for House of the Pomegranate.  In almost all ancient cultures, the pomegranate, with its ruby colour and jewel-like seeds, represented wealth, fertility, royalty, and even immortality.    This symbolism seems especially appropriate in a city as timeless and culturally rich as Fes.

Framed by lush olive groves and the ancient ruins of the medina walls, Dar Roumana invites you to experience the richness and comfort of a traditional Fassi guesthouse.  Relax with a book and a glass of Moroccan mint tea on the spacious sun-drenched roof terrace with a spectacular view of the entire medina and Atlas Mountains.  After dinner prepared by our Cordon Bleu chef, retire to the library for a fire-side game of chess or choose a movie from our video and DVD collection.  Each of our five suites contains the work of local artisans: original mosaic tile floors, intricate carved plaster, rich cedar ceilings and doors, and hand-crafted furnishings.

While the structure and décor of Dar Roumana retains its traditional character, modern conveniences have been discreetly added.  All guest accommodation includes a private bath, complete with bathrobes and local toiletries, and personal safe-deposit boxes.  The rooms do not feature TVs or telephones, which might detract from the tranquility and traditional nature of life in the medina.  All suites and common areas are heated in the winter.

Dar Roumana was designed to feel more like a home than a hotel.  We invite guests to lounge in comfortable sitting rooms, relax in the sun on the spacious roof terrace, and take a glass of tea in the library. The library offers a wide selection of books (English, French, and Spanish), hand-crafted game table (chess, backgammon, and cards), and board games.  A cosy salon with a video and DVD collection of over 100 titles is tucked away in a quiet corner away from the guest suites.
