About us
A graduate of Duke University and a Fulbright scholar in Damascus, Jennifer's destiny took her to travels around the world, bringing her to London where she worked in investment banking for several years. Tired of the trade, she trained as a Cordon Bleu chef and on a visit to Morocco, fell in love with Fes and decided to create Dar Roumana.
The restoration work has been carried out by local artisans and closely supervised by Jennifer, who undertook much of the restoration of the beautifully sculpted cedar doors herself. She is one of the youngest entrepeneurs and the first American to open a guesthouse in the Fes medina, a story that aroused the interest of CNN who featured Dar Roumana in their series "Design 360" in October 2004.
In March 2006, EVE magazine (a British publication) featured Jennifer and Dar Roumana in their monthly piece entitled "Women Doing Their Own Thing". Since then, Dar Roumana has been featured in Lonely Panet, Frommer´s, Time Out, Vogue, Harper´s Bazaar, Travel + Leisure,The Guardian, The Sunday Times (London), and The Telegraph.
welcome to our home...
Rachida, Nezha, and Naima have all been with me since Dar Roumana opened its doors on Jan 1, 2006. We have grown and developed the dar together - I may provide the heart and inspiration, but these three incredible women are most definitely the backbone.
Mohamed, our assistant manager, hails from the village of Moulay Idriss near Meknes. His smile and enthusiasm are so infectious, I can hardly believed we operated for 3 years without him.
